Limmie Hughes

Limmie Hughes

1929-2017

Limmie is the Patriarch of the Hughes Family. He displayed to his sons and grandsons the meaning of hard work. After 40 years of working in a factory (McQuay), Limmie retired and began to use his leisure time working his numerous gardens and on his tractors.

Limmie has truly brought Hughes and Sons its hard work and dedication to service. Limmie was married to Mrs. Johnnie Ruth Hughes and they have 3 children. Vernon, Joe Benard (deceased) and Lenard Gordon.

1957-2006

Joe was a very important part to the establishment and future success of Hughes and Sons – being the first in the family to be associated with the funeral industry for nearly 30 years.

Joe was a full time employee of Mississippi Power and Light, which would later be named Entergy, for over 20 years. Joe used his spare time to work as a funeral director with a local funeral home that later brought his son Joshua into the funeral business.

Joe passed from this life on January 11, 2006 at the young age of 49. Joe was married to Mrs. Felecia (Willis) Hughes. They have 4 children Cedric, Reginald, Cresean and Joshua.



Leanard Gordon Hughes

Leanard Gordon Hughes

Leanard Gordon Hughes was raised in Grenada, Mississippi and graduated from Grenada High School.  Following high school, Leanard attended Mississippi Valley State University before entering into the United States Navy, where he honorably served during the first Gulf War.  After being discharged from the Navy, Leanard moved his family to Cincinnati, Ohio.  

Leanard has been working in the environmental field as an Environmental Specialist for over 20 years. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University.  He also has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Keller School of Business at DeVry University. 

Leanard is a faithful member of the Quinn Chapel AME Church and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, Cincinnati Alumni Chapter. His funeral experience dates back to high school as a part time assistant of a local funeral home in Grenada, MS. 

Leanard is married to Sandra Kate (Carpenter) Hughes for over 30 years and they are the proud parents of four sons.



Joshua Hughes

Funeral Director In Charge

Joshua Hughes, born and raised in Grenada, MS, has an extensive background in the funeral industry throughout the South. Joshua began his funeral career at the age of 15, assisting his father who was then a funeral attendant for a local funeral home. After high school, Joshua went on to attend Mortuary College in Atlanta, GA at the highly renowned Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science.

While in college in Atlanta, GA, Joshua worked under some of most prestigious names in funeral business in the Atlanta metro area. After receiving licensure, he then returned home to work for funeral homes throughout the state of Mississippi. Joshua extended his career to Memphis, TN, and received licensure there while working for two of the largest firms in the city of Memphis.

Joshua was recently elected to his first four-year term to the Grenada City Council in 2016, and he has a desire to help serve the community with a new vision for a better Grenada. Joshua is a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ in Grenada, and he has a strong faith in God. He is committed and dedicated, and his beliefs are derived from faith, family, and service.

Joshua is married to the beautiful Mrs. Jessica (Coker) Hughes and they have 4 children: Jayla, Joshua, Jai, and Joshlyn. 



Demetrius Hughes

Demetrius Hughes

Demetrius Hughes was raised in the greater Cincinnati area and graduated from Lockland High School and from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Business Management. Demetrius later went on to complete his Bachelor's degree in Mortuary Science at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science where he was a recipient of Dean List Honors. 

Demetrius has always had an interest in funeral service and he has been passionate about serving others his entire life – both emotionally and through physical service. Funeral service is his first choice of career, and Demetrius desires to support families in their time of grief and needs.  Demetrius has two relatives who service this profession, but he feels privileged to accomplish his goal of becoming one of the 1st generation funeral directors in his immediate family. 

Demetrius Hughes is the second son of Leanard Gordon and Sandra Kate Hughes.
