Limmie Hughes, 87, of Grenada departed from this life on March 18, 2017, in Desoto
County, MS. He was born in Carroll County on December 3, 1929, to Willie Sanders
and Mellie (George) Hughes.
Mr. Hughes enlisted in the United States Army and later moved to Grenada and there
he worked at Heatcraft until he retired.
Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Jessie "Peanut"
Hughes (Charlesette); and his son, Joe Benard Hughes (Felecia). Mr. Hughes leaves
his wife Mrs. Johnnie Ruth (Williams) Hughes; two sons, Vernon William (Josephine)
of Grenada and Leanard Gordon (Sandra) Hughes of Hamilton, Ohio; three daughters
Lisa Johnson (Johnny) of Corinth, Latia Butts( Harvey), Laneda Owens both of
Winona; two brothers, James Willie and Joe S. (Jessie Louise) Hughes of Grenada;
four sisters Dorothy "Dean" Foreman of Memphis, Tenn., Juanita Washington, Annie
Mae Watt, and Earlie Lewis (Douglas MacArthur) all of Grenada; 15 grandchildren,
10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Mr. Hughes will lie in state on Friday, March 31 from noon to 3 p.m. at Mt Herman
AME Church in Grenada. Family and friends will gather for a viewing at Hughes and
Sons Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 pm at Burning Bush MB
Church located at 1620 N. Levee St in Grenada.
